Teaching and Learning

Curiosity and a genuine love for learning resonates throughout Edgecliff, creating a highly supportive and collaborative environment with unique energy, positivity and a characteristic buzz in the air.

We pride ourselves on building solid foundations in all curricular areas, through a mix of explicit direct teaching and inquiry-based learning. Opportunities to develop creative and critical thinking skills and interpersonal collaborative capabilities are key, along with embracing and nurturing each boy’s inquisitive nature and passion for exploring, questioning and discovering the world around him.

Our focus lies in the development of the whole boy, who is given ample opportunities to explore and pursue his own academic interests during his time here. In conjunction with the core subjects, the study of Music, Science and Technology, Spanish, Visual Arts, P.E. and Drama allows boys to develop passions across a wide field. Teachers attempt to model and encourage their pupils to uphold the School's values of respect, resilience, honesty and curiosity, and look to weave these important pillars of a humane education into their programmes.

Teaching and learning

Being an intellectually selective school, our teaching and learning programmes are specifically designed to provide academic rigor and challenge, with purposefully higher levels of pitch, pace and complexity.

Edgecliff’s Attitudes to Learning underpin our pedagogy and provide a common shared language between boys and staff. We aim to equip all boys with skills and attributes that foster respect for self and others, promote personal reflection and awareness, build empathy and encourage responsibility for behaviour within our School community as well as taking a wider global perspective.
