Our aim is to expose the boys to the extraordinary range of ideas that have been and continue to be expressed through art.
We do this by learning about artists and their work. By looking closely at works of art and discussing artists’ ideas and techniques, boys end up with a solid foundation in art history and art criticism by the time they leave Edgecliff. By making their own artworks – from paintings, drawings and sculptures, to group installations, prints, photographs and digital artworks – boys develop technical skills, fine motor skills and lateral thinking, as well a broad knowledge of what is possible in art and how to express themselves visually.
Each year we invite one or two artists to come in to the School as Artists-In-Residence. This gives the boys an opportunity to meet practising artists and exposes them to different approaches to making art.
